Are there good metallic fabric paints that don't stiffen light fabrics?

Hello, my name is Holly, and I need help. I am copying a Turkish dance costume from a pre-Raphaelite painting. Both the coat and pants are covered in metallic gold designs which I would like to copy as accurately as possible. The problem I'm having is finding a metallic paint flexible enough to use on the light weight fabric required to give the proper drape and make the costume comfortable to dance in. Please send any suggestions you have. Thanks.

By the way, the Manifesto is great reading. It has far surpassed helpful and is right up with inspirational. May your scissors be sharp, your thread strong and may you never prick a finger --- Holly

Alas, we opened Bacchae Tonight here at UAF and every finger is nail-less, with hot glue burns and multiple punctures! However, I will suffer along typing long enough to ask how thin, and what sort of designs? If the designs are spindly stuff on chiffon, you can drizzle gold glitter paints into the patterns and it wont stiffen much. If the designs are flatter, and the silky stuff is opaque, you might try doing a really delicate job of gold transfer foil stuff. Generally, all paints stiffen fabric a bit, but the little cheap bottles of fabric paint that come with one of those squirter tips for about $1-2 a bottle work best. DON'T use Ceramcoat for fabric if you don't want it to resemble cardboard. The foil stuff I mentioned is also very flexible, but a bit more expensive, you do a thin coating of some clear paint like stuff, then stick Mylar like foil to it and peel. This makes a gold-leaf like finish that is super-shiny. You can get it a stores like Ben Franklin.  Thanks for the compliment on the Manifesto! It's nice to hear there are people out there that use it. ---Tara
