Dumpster Diver Decor & Home Craft Insanity by MmeExxxedrin

Getting Stoned in the Garden

In August we are making Stepping stones for the paths out of Cement and found objects. A whole series of stones were made by pouring a "mud pie" of concrete over big leaves.  These are flipped over when dry and the leaf rots away, leaving a leaf shaped design.  Here is a stone made with a crushed Coke can inset while wet. We also found two boxes of assorted hub caps in a dumpster that we have put as stepping stones on one of the back paths. Tres Trailer Trash to be sure, but quite festive!

Meanwhile, we are planning on casting better stones with some other goodies. This unassuming pile of rocks on left was ignored by most at the transfer site, but Mme. Exxxedrin knows marble mosaic tile from Israel when she finds it, so we brought it home, cleaned and sorted it, and are planning a little Romanesque tile setting to come.   Then, there is this fragment of a china lamp that will be broken into tiles for another paving stone.

The bright patterns below are stained glass scraps ($2 a lb.) and colored glass drips ($1-2 a 1 lb. bag) which will go into other stones.  They are composed on clear contact paper before sticking into wet cement.

To make the pieces one takes the scraps and uses a glass cutter to break them into smaller bits.
