THE MANIFESTO IS MUTATING!  IT IS TURNING INTO A WIKI THAT CAN BECOME THE HIVE MIND OF ALL COSTUMERS, FINALLY LIVING UP TO IT'S SLOGAN: "COSTUMERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!" YOU CAN HELP IN THIS PROCESS BY MOVING PAGES TO THE NEW SITE AT THECOSTUMERSMANIFESTO.COM, HELPING TO EDIT THE PAGES THAT ARE THERE ALREADY, AND ADDING YOUR OWN ORIGINAL INPUT.

Complete Foam-Sculpture Costume 10D+20C

Full foam sculpture costumes are some of the most difficult of costume projects, but are also very satisfying, since they tend to transform the body totally, in very fun and impressive ways.  MVC-005F.JPG (50056 bytes) MVC-006F.JPG (47340 bytes) MVC-010F.JPG (51207 bytes)

Lorraine Pettit, UAF's former wizard of foam says: "How to make a sphere Get a hula hoop and 1/2 carpet foam   cool melt hot glue and duct tape.  If you have a dual temp gun make sure it is on low.  Otherwise because of the insulating properties of foam you have the potential to get wicked burns..  Wrap your hoop with the foam, you want your edges to just meet not over lap.  Divide the circumference into eight parts . Measure your hoop to get your diameter"

"On the inside butt the edges of your segments together. and join them with duct tape  The side without the tape will flare out slightly, this is the side you hot glue.  Hold the glued edges together briefly. then use more duct tape on the out side. The best way to proceed is to glue segments together until you have two halves. Then glue the halves together."

"First go to your local fabric store look in a pattern catalog. What you are looking for is a Christmas pageant costume. Look for the pattern that has basically men in dresses."

"Now you have your pattern cut it out in muslin. Sew it together with the seams on the out side. Fit the person who will wear the costume. You will most likely have to lower the arm holes. Note any changes.  This will become the lining of the costume. Take Ridgeline and sew  a hoop about every 6 inches up to the waist..  Cut and sew the outer fabric you are going to use.  now join the inner and outer fabrics and bind around the neck and arm holes. Now on to the head. "

"The next part you will need 1 inch foam and the person who is going to wear the costume. Have them sit and wrap the foam around their head in a rough triangle shape.  Figure out where their face is and cut that part out. cut the bottom to shape it for their shoulders. Once you are happy with the rough shape you can work on the head with out you victim.. Round out the shape with quilt batting. Once you are satisfied with the shape cover it with the same fabric as the dress /body. Try to get the back side a smooth as possible. Using a fabric with some stretch helps. Don't worry if you have to cut out darts to get a good fit. "

The base for the head of dick is built of 1" foam and quilt batting:

" Decide how big you want the testicles to be. They are just slightly elongated spheres Before you join the halves together ,stuff each one with nylon netting, which helps them retain their shape.  The pubic hair is made from about five cheap wigs .  "

A base for a testicle is made of 3/4" foam, and stuffed with nylon netting to prevent collapse.
