THR 254 Costume Design & Construction

Make your own Geta (Japanese wooden shoes) Project (15C)

Geta are Japanese sandals made of wood that have little risers ("ha") on the bottoms that keep the feet out of the wet.  They are surprisingly comfortable, and take a very short amount of time to learn to walk in.  Designs for some shows set in Japan (like The Mikado) sometimes require them, yet they are often troublesome to get, or expensive to buy.  Happily, a fan of these shoes has put the ultimate set of instructions for making them cheaply on the web, which allowed us to make them for the whole cast of our Mikado.

And follow the instructions for making a pair of these wooden shoes.

When they are finished, photograph the shoes as jpeg files and post them to your File folder at the class eGroup.  Post a message to the group letting everyone know you have posted these pictures so you can get feedback.
