Putting the Site Together

Once you have images & an idea of what you want to put in your web site you can begin to put it together.  Contrary to what you may have heard you do not need to learn HTML in order to make web pages.

  • WYSIWYG Web Editors --- WYSIWYG stands for "What You See Is What You Get", these software programs let you make a page while seeing what it will look like on the web.  There are free Web Editors like Netscape Navigator (yes, the web browser you may be using will also let you make pages).  There are also ones you can buy for doing fancy pages like Microsoft FrontPage or Adobe Pagemill.
  • Making Pages in Word --- If you use a recent version of Microsoft Word  to write letters or papers already, you can make pages with Word just like a regular document, with pictures, etc.  All you have to do is choose "Save as --- HTML" and Word will save the document as a web page.  Recent versions of Corel WordPerfect or Microsoft Publisher do this too.
  • Online Wizards --- Online wizards are sites on the net that make a web page just by filling out a form.  They are so mindlessly easy even small children can make their own sites with them.  Most companies that provide free web space like Tripod, Geocities, and Angelfire have wizards you can use to set up a page or pages on their sites.
