straightscissors.jpg (17347 bytes) Pre-Industrial Revolution shears. (Modern reproduction) Adapted from a farming tool for shearing sheep, it replaced the use of a knife for cutting fabric during the late Middle Ages and Renaissance.   manifestoscissors.jpg (16125 bytes) Industrial Revolution Bent Trimmers, (Modern reproduction) shears designed specifically for cutting cloth.   These shears became standard for garment manufacture during this period and helped to speed up the commercial and domestic production of clothing.  They work faster, cut more accurately, and reduce muscle strain in the operator when compared with the earlier shears.
