The 2nd Theatre UAF Wearable Art Fashion Show FUNdraiser

An Invitation to Artists and Crafters:

Artists of ALL media are invited to create works of wearable art/costume for inclusion in the  The 2nd Theatre UAF Wearable Art Fashion Show FUNdraiser. Wearable art is handcrafted, one of a kind artwork designed to be worn on a human body.  It need not be “practical” for real-world wear, but for the purposes of this show must be able to move enough for the model to be able to walk across the stage and runway, as well as some stairs.  Costumes (historical recreations, cosplay, humor, fantasy, etc.) are also eligible for this show.  Traditional forms of Alaska Native dress are also encouraged.

The Fashion Show

Will run in the Lee H. Salisbury Theatre on the UAF Campus on

  • Saturday, February 18, 2006 @ 8:15pm

  • Sunday, February 19, 2006 @ 2:00pm.

Deadlines:

All entries must be received at the Department of Theatre at UAF by Monday January 30, 2006.

 Contact Information: UAF Theatre Department
302 Great Hall, Fairbanks, AK 99775-5700

Office Phone: (907) 474-6590 Fax: (907) 474-7048
E-mail: fythtr@uaf.edu

Guidelines:

  • Open to Artists of all media.

  • Entry Fee is $25 for community members, and Free for UAF Students.

  • You may make as many entries as you wish.

  • You must provide your own model(s) for the show; this can be yourself.

  • Dress Rehearsal attendance is required: Friday February 17 @ 6:30pm. Both models and artists must attend.

  • A Photographer and videographer will document the event for Theatre UAF, and photographs will be allowed during the public performances.  It is the responsibility of the artist to inform models that photos may be used in publicizing the FUNdraiser and Theatre UAF.

  • All visible attire should be part of the total costume.  Normal street clothes like jeans and t-shirt are not enough to set off an entry that is a hat.  If you are showing a single item like this, consult with the show director (Tara Maginnis 474-7630) for advice.

  • View your costume from all angles.  Some audience members will be sitting below the runway and looking up, others will be at the back of the house looking above from 20-30 feet away, all will eventually see the garment from the back.  Consider how your piece will “read” from these vantages.

  • In consideration of making the show into a seamless whole, the Show director will be making all final decisions regarding staging and music.

  • Entries should either be hand delivered to the Theatre Dept Office (Rm 302)  in the Great Hall on the UAF campus, or Mailed to: Wearable Art Fashion Show, attn: Tara Maginnis, Ph.D., Dept Of Theatre, PO Box 755700, Fairbanks AK, 99775-5700
