THE MANIFESTO IS MUTATING!  IT IS TURNING INTO A WIKI THAT CAN BECOME THE HIVE MIND OF ALL COSTUMERS, FINALLY LIVING UP TO IT'S SLOGAN: "COSTUMERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!" YOU CAN HELP IN THIS PROCESS BY MOVING PAGES TO THE NEW SITE AT THECOSTUMERSMANIFESTO.COM, HELPING TO EDIT THE PAGES THAT ARE THERE ALREADY, AND ADDING YOUR OWN ORIGINAL INPUT.

Time Capsule: Tara's Portfolio 1978-83

Here are examples of some of the old pictures from my portfolio, back when I was an undergraduate (1976-81) and as a freelance costumer (1981-83).  This shows some of what you might find to use from your student projects, home sewing, and work on shows as a student that would be good to put in a portfolio.

Student Class Projects: 1978portfolio.jpg (66503 bytes) Foam & Buckram unicorn mask

bhat.jpg (48460 bytes) Velvet period hat

egg.jpg (21784 bytes) copy of a Faberge egg

Costumes from Renaissance Fairs and Dickens Fair costume contests.  I entered every costume contest I could find when I was young, so that I could stack up a number of awards on my resume:

1979portfolio.jpg (51618 bytes) Green dress on left, and Rust dress on right were made by me. 1981renfaire.jpg (52459 bytes) Me in Renaissance costume

1981renfaire2.jpg (45605 bytes) Red and blue costumes by me

1978portfolio2.jpg (167664 bytes)  1979portfolio2.jpg (71733 bytes) 1979portfolio3.jpg (411790 bytes) 1979portfolio4.jpg (63455 bytes) dickensfair1986.jpg (35510 bytes) dickensfair1986b.jpg (18957 bytes)

When I missed getting costume pictures of some  children's shows I had designed because of poor lighting in the theatre, I made the effort to get the costumes photographed by putting some of the best ones on the neighbors kids and photographing them outdoors in better light:

Some Makeup and hair class projects:

catmakeup.jpg (27391 bytes) Cat makeup

18thhair.jpg (25888 bytes) late 18th century 1/2 powdered hair

latexbeard.jpg (9910 bytes) latex beard

Hats designed and made for a costume rental store:

Hat and dress made for a reenactor event:

The hat gets a makeover, and is entered into a county fair, along with some other items, with which I won a few more prizes:
