Metro Man 

You stand there

in the center

arms folded

face closed

calmly

balanced

riding on a flying train

in a city of chaos

on a spinning ball

in the farthest corner

of a swirling galaxy

you smile at me

indulgently

while I hang on

just barely

white knuckled

to the ride of my life

you say you

 

once

worked in the metro

sitting in place

in a surreal job

going nowhere

you say you hated it

and that you hate

riding the train

but there you stand

feet planted firmly

as if you were

a tree

that grew in this flying spot

and doesn't know

stillness

from motion
