THE MANIFESTO IS MUTATING!  IT IS TURNING INTO A WIKI THAT CAN BECOME THE HIVE MIND OF ALL COSTUMERS, FINALLY LIVING UP TO IT'S SLOGAN: "COSTUMERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!" YOU CAN HELP IN THIS PROCESS BY MOVING PAGES TO THE NEW SITE AT THECOSTUMERSMANIFESTO.COM, HELPING TO EDIT THE PAGES THAT ARE THERE ALREADY, AND ADDING YOUR OWN ORIGINAL INPUT.

I took a weekend trip with two old school friends to help me and them to sort out what we might do with our lives, and found that while we were a comfort to each other still, three heads were definitely no better than one at working out one's life's problems.

Nostalgia Trip

And here I am

going

where I was

someone else

before

again coming

to a place

I know

in comfort

as a home

yet not

my home

I meet again

the friends

I knew

back when

we were

different people

and we recall

our mutual past

now melted like ice cream

on the hot sidewalk

of the hot valley town

we once shared

Our present

we try to connect

to our melted past

in vain

our lives

convergent

past the point

of return

yet still we linger

in the comforting

heat

drinking iced Cokes

as if we would

dive

into them

like a plunge in a pool

And we share

the simple comfort

of everyday conveniences

the quick fix

of the drive through

the cool air

of the indoor mall

the instant finance

of the ATM

smoothing our way

to our reunion

and softening

the blow

of change

with insulation

from reality

But still

it hits us

time passes

and has passed

this trio by

we are struggling

to keep up

with our lives

as they rapidly

escape

in opposite directions

we look for advice

from each other

when we need

look no further

than ourselves

The heat and calm

are so beautiful

my friends so good

and comforting

but we cannot

escape

the cold comfort

of ultimate solitude

in our lives

we must choose

for ourselves

how to live

we must live

for ourselves

to survive
