The Costumer's Manifesto is written by Tara Maginnis, and proudly hosted by William Baker.

THE MANIFESTO IS MUTATING!  IT IS TURNING INTO A WIKI THAT CAN BECOME THE HIVE MIND OF ALL COSTUMERS, FINALLY LIVING UP TO IT'S SLOGAN: "COSTUMERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!" YOU CAN HELP IN THIS PROCESS BY MOVING PAGES TO THE NEW SITE AT THECOSTUMERSMANIFESTO.COM, HELPING TO EDIT THE PAGES THAT ARE THERE ALREADY, AND ADDING YOUR OWN ORIGINAL INPUT.

Unnecessary Things

My life

is wrapped

like unwanted presents

in boxes

decorated with bows

and fancy papers

it is tied down

by the weight

of books

and lamps

and carpets

of Persian wool

Peterman says:

"People want things

that make

their lives

the way they

wish

they were"

but things

can never make

a life

and clothes

that evoke

adventure

and romance

are no substitute

for romance

or adventures

my box

of white lace

carefully saved

for a wedding dress

will never

marry me

my bright

red shoes

will never

take me out

dancing

till dawn

these things

are only objects

ready to be packed

and weighing me down

with the baggage

of an empty life

it's time

I packed

them for good

and went on my way

to live
