THE MANIFESTO IS MUTATING!  IT IS TURNING INTO A WIKI THAT CAN BECOME THE HIVE MIND OF ALL COSTUMERS, FINALLY LIVING UP TO IT'S SLOGAN: "COSTUMERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!" YOU CAN HELP IN THIS PROCESS BY MOVING PAGES TO THE NEW SITE AT THECOSTUMERSMANIFESTO.COM, HELPING TO EDIT THE PAGES THAT ARE THERE ALREADY, AND ADDING YOUR OWN ORIGINAL INPUT.

Day 5 The Globe and The Rose

After a breakfast at the hotel get a guided backstage tour of The Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, & adjacent museum.  Then go around the corner to The Rose Archeological Site. In the afternoon we will do the long awaited matinee of The Comedy of Errors at the new Globe Theatre, so prepare for weather as you would at a football game. Evening free to gloat and talk about the experience.

On Comedy of Errors:

"Shakespeare's early comedy expressed his command over complex plots, using two sets of twins to embellish a tale of mistaken identities. Inspired by Plautus' Menaechmi, it tells of a stranger's search for his lost family in the city of Ephesus, a centre of the cult of the goddess Diana. Kathryn Hunter directs a cast that includes Marcello Magni (The Merchant of Venice/The Honest Whore, Globe 1998), Paul Chahidi (Faust, Barbican 1996), Harry Gostelow (Mr Puntila and His Man Matti, Albery 1998), Leader Hawkins (A Mad World My Masters, Globe 1998), Jan Knightley (Peter Pan, National 1997), Jules Melvin (A Chaste Maid In Cheapside, Globe 1997), Robert Pickavance (Woman of Troy, National 1995), Philippa Stanton (How I Learned to Drive, Donmar Warehouse 1998) and Martin Turner (Troilus and Cressida, Open Air 1998)."
